Communications: Overview

Loggers are download to the computer over several different protocols:

Single loggers can be downloaded over an RS232 serial cable connection

Portable loggers connect to the computer via a 1.8 metre plug in cable.
Industrial Loggers are permanently connected to a computer RS232 serial port, with upto 15 metres of Cat5e cable.
For distances over 15 metres a RS422 protocol connection is required. RS422 protocol has a maximum communication distance of up to 1,000 metres

Multiple loggers can be downloaded over a RS422,TCP/IP or Modem connection

Over an RS422 connection multiple loggers can be daisy chain linked to a computer.
Over a TCP/IP connection multiple loggers can be downloaded over a Local Area Network or Wide Area Network.
Remote location loggers can be downloaded over a Modem connection back to the office computer
